Hannah and Ninh

This January I was hired to shoot a wedding for this couple who was from the Bay area. They came north and wanted to get married close to the redwoods. We had some rain in the forcast that day and had to move the wedding inside. They ended up using the Lodge up at Redwood park here in Arcata, which was cool, and then we had some fun afterwards in the park shooting in the redwoods. The sun ended up coming out for us, and we were so lucky because it lit up the redwoods. January is often a beautiful month here in Arcata, but you never know. We used the leaves that were still on the ground, and had a lovely time. Redwood park actually has a lot to offer if you search around. Next we ...

What a fun wedding this was! I came on board not too long before the wedding. The venue changes last minute and they ended up finding this epic barn up in Dow's Prairie. It was a really cool space, it had an old bar, and a loft, and a stage, and some neat old rellics around.I think that place was a gem, and the proce was right. They had some rain forcast on their day, so in the end, they chose to just do the ceremony in the barn.I was really impressed with the way they took this space and turned it into a cozy and beautiful spot....check it out...The Table decorations were really cool and authentic. Thrift store plates, vines form the garden, and the ever more popular mason jars!Their cake ...

Jamie and Rod are such a cool couple. I met them earlier in the year when I did a senoir portrait for Jamie's son Michael. Jamie and Rod decided to get married up in Trinidad at Larrupin cafe.We thought it would be worth going up to Patrick's point before the wedding to take advantage of the beautiful scenery that the North Coast has to offer. It was a grey and rainy day, but sometimes the misty subtle light brings a certain mood to the photographs.Patrick's pont has a lot of cool nooks and crannys. It's neat to be able to get into such a diverse array of enviornments within one park. The Ferns are so electric green, and it's always fun to use props like an umbrella to throw a little bot of ...

Round Up Fall 2014

Round up is my favorite thing our family goes to do all year long. There is usually one in the spring, and one in the fall. The Ranch is set in the hills of Hopland, CA. It overlooks vast amounts of grapes in the heart of wine country, and has gorgeous rolling hills and a big open valley. We bring our horses down and they stay in a huge pasture on the hill. It's hard to catch them in the morning, they get lost up there on the mountain and seem to love the endless space.Saturday Morning I wake up around 6, feed the horses in the dark, and get up to Nina's house to start making breakfast for the crew. The Ranch has been in the hands of some amazing women for a long time now. Cowgirls have been ...

Hannah Senior Portrait

Hannah and Ninh

Here are a few shots from the senior portrait I shot the other day with Hannah. It's Interesting, she was wanting to do her pictures in a place with a lot of fall color, and surprisingly out here that can be hard to fin in a public place around town. Although we do have deciduous trees around here, we get a lot of yellow, and the timing is always inconsistant. So we ended up going to the Fieldbrook winery which was cool because I didn't know you could ask to shoot there if it wasn't a wedding. But you can!Stairs are always fun to use, especially if they have that rustic wooden character like these. I keep my eyes out for spots that have some leaf cover, or just leaves lying around so that ...
